Our work with the Dept of Veteran Affairs delivers clinical care to Veterans by managing the logistics and flow of supplies and equipment. Supply Chain Management (SCM) ensures that the right equipment and supplies are available when needed, and the Supply Chain Management Product Line (SCM PL) encompasses the activities to procure resources, manage supplies, and deliver goods and services to providers and patients.

What is the position?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SAFe 6.0 Release Train Engineer (RTE) to join our organization. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SAFe 6.0, a valid certification as SAFe 6.0 Release Train Engineer, and a proven track record of leading a team of agile team teams in the successful delivery of business value through both planning and execution of PI cycles. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be experienced in transforming an organization from waterfall to scaled agile, possess training experience in Agile, and be proficient in Jira.

As a Release Train Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the successful delivery of large-scale, complex programs across multiple teams, departments, and organizations. You will work closely with product owners, product managers, scrum masters, and the ART’s stakeholders to ensure that the ART meets business and technical needs, while adhering to agile principles and best practices. You will also be responsible for managing ART level risks and dependencies, facilitating communication and collaboration between teams, and ensuring that the ART is aligned with the organization's overall strategy and goals.

This is a highly visible and critical role within the organization, and the successful candidate must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as strong organizational and management skills.

What will I get to do?

  • Lead the successful delivery of large-scale, complex programs across multiple teams and sub-product lines or functions.

  • Continuously improve the release train process and delivery performance.

  • Provide regular program progress updates to senior management, stakeholders, and business owners.

  • Be a servant leader and coach to the Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and Scrum Teams, promoting the adoption of SAFe 6.0 practices and principles.

  • Facilitate the planning and execution of the PI and ART ceremonies such as PO Sync, Coach Sync, and ART backlog refinement, including organizing and guiding all team and stakeholder pre-planning, during planning, and post planning activities.

  • Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities, objectives, and the overall roadmap.

  • Drive continuous improvement and foster a culture of learning within the Agile Release Trains, identifying and implementing process improvements and best practices.

  • Support and guide the development of Scrum Masters, and Product Owners, providing mentorship and coaching to enhance their skills.

  • Facilitate resolution of impediments and dependencies, working closely with teams, scrum masters, and stakeholders to remove any roadblocks to progress.

  • Monitor and report on the progress and health of the Agile Release Trains, tracking metrics and providing regular updates to stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with other RTEs and stakeholders across the organization to ensure coordination and alignment between Agile Release Trains.

  • Act as a change agent, promoting SAFe 6.0 adoption and providing guidance on Agile principles and practices to the wider organization.

  • Communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs).

  • Assist the business with economic decision making by facilitating epic estimation by teams and rolling up to achieve Program level visibility.

  • Master of complex facilitation and dependency management techniques to steer contributors through all the necessary ART ceremonies including program increment planning, demos, and reviews.

What qualifications do I need?

  • SAFe 6.0 RTE certification is required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading agile teams in an ART construct

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Business or relevant discipline (or 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)

  • Proven track record of leading and facilitating PI Planning and execution in a virtual (remote) environment.

  • Experience transforming an enterprise organization from waterfall to scaled agile.

  • Training experience in Agile

  • Proficient in Jira

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Strong organizational and management skills

  • Must be able to achieve a moderate (Tier 2) VA position of trust.

What additional characteristics will help me thrive?

  • Experience with other Agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban

  • Experience in the software development industry, particularly in a leadership role

  • Experience in project management, particularly in a complex, multi-team environment

  • Experience working in the Federal Government; Veteran's Administration (VA) experience a plus.

  • Active clearance for Public Trust Position

Compensation

$113,927.72 - $187,981.83

The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration - contract-specific affordability, education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The estimate displayed represents the salary range for this position and is just one component of Cognosante’s total compensation package for employees. It is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee.
