LeMoyne College STEP Academic Coordinator in Syracuse, New York

The Coordinator will ensure day-to-day activities and management at each high school site, organize programmatic activities, and work closely with supervisors to achieve grant project outcomes. The STEP Academic Coordinator will serve as the point person between the high school and the Director in collaboration with high school tutors. This position requires an outgoing, approachable and self-motivated individual with a passion for assisting high school students pursuing STEM pathways from underrepresented groups.

This is a full-time position for in-school hours and hosting learning sessions one to two Saturdays per month (8:30 am - 12:00 pm).

Facilitate a variety of opportunities during the summer and academic year, including but not limited to academic enrichment and character development activities, access to college courses, annual statewide STEP conference, college and career visits, community service, tutoring, college admissions counseling, internships and research, mentoring, and regent's exam and SAT preparation. Provide academic and professional counseling including assistance with college application process and employment applications; and identify students who require additional academic support services. Perform one-on-one meetings with students in the program to assist with short and long-range educational goals Facilitate seminars and programming with the assistance of other STEP professionals that contribute to the goal of advancing student's academic, personal, and professional growth. Track all student contact information and program activities for the purposes within the grant and assist with marketing of programs and events. Supervise and manage the STEP space within the high schools ensuring that students are acting in a professional and respectful manner. Implement student recruitment and retention efforts within each high school; fosters and maintains relationships with high school personnel, administrative team, and staff. Be able to work in partnership with building administrations at serving schools and work to provide updates and implement changes within the program. Review the grants RFP (requirements/goals/expectations) each academic year. Job expectations for all Le Moyne College employees:

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in education or related field required; Master's degree preferred. NYS Teaching Certification preferred. Minimum of two years' experience working with high school students in an academic or equivalent environment and/or administrative experience with a higher education opportunity program. Demonstrated sensitivity to and experience with low-income, academic at-risk students. An understanding of and comfort with culturally diverse populations Excellent written and communication skills. Willingness to work occasional non-traditional hours; this position includes 1-2 Saturdays per month. Competence with basic Microsoft Office Suite skills and technology An interest in, and commitment to, academic achievement in high school students Flexibility and adaptability are essential.
