Smithtown Fire District Fire District Manager in Smithtown, New York

A Candidate must meet the requirements of the Suffolk County Civil Service job specification for Fire District Manager including a thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws regarding the operations and financial record-keeping of a fire district; thorough knowledge of public administration procedures; thorough knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the preparation of budgets; good knowledge of public personnel procedures and practices; good knowledge of purchasing and accounting methods and report preparation; ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of a fire district staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the Board of Fire Commissioners, district employees, volunteer fire personnel and the public; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Candidate must have 6 years of experience in business/public administration, including 3 years experience as a Commissioner, Chief, Assistant Chief or paid employee of a NYS Fire District or Department. Preferred qualifications include living within 15 miles of the Smithtown Fire District to be available to respond to district matters when they arise outside of normal business hours and a Class A/B Operator - Underground Storage Tank (UST) Systems License. Candidate should preferably possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Red NMX software and ESO; have working knowledge of EMS equipment/operations, Hazardous Materials equipment/operations, Technical Rescue equipment/operations and Marine Fire/Rescue equipment/operations.
