    Job Summary

    The Manger of Coding Services is responsible to plan, organize and direct the overall day to day coding operations for the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) service lines. The Manager is responsible to the Director of Coding Services for oversight of CAH coders designated by the Avera Health coding organizational structure. The Manager is expected to have day to day involvement with leaders and coders across the organization including internal and external as necessary. The Manager is responsible for managing and monitoring performance and quality metrics in addition to revenue cycle metrics as designed for CAH coding operations. The Manager will assist in the establishment of performance metrics, policies and procedures, departmental objectives, and other administrative tasks in collaboration with the Director of Coding Services.

    Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management or an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in application of coding ICD-9/ICD-10/CM and CPT.

  • Previous related operational and supervisor experience required.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Must be registered or accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in one of the following:

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

  • Must complete an additional certification of one of the following credentials:

  • Certified as a Coding Specialist (CCS) by the AHIMA

  • Certified as Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P) by the AHIMA.

  • Certified Professional Coder – (CPC) by the AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders)

  • Applicants who are not certified in an additional credential are able to sit for the national exam within one year of employment.
