TEKsystems Sr. Systems Engineer in Silver Spring, Maryland

This position is a hybrid schedule - on-site in Silver Spring, MD. This position is at a hospital system and does require certain immunizations. No C2C/Sub-contracting for this role. This role is a 6-month contract to hire.

Description:

Our client is seeking 2 Sr. Data Center ("Systems Engineers") and a Mid-Level Data Center ("Systems Engineer") to join their team responsible for designing, implementing, and configuring Data Center and Infrastructure solutions. The environment consists of 85% Windows / 15% Red Hat Linux. It's a hybrid environment; some systems and server infrastructure is on-prem as well as within the cloud (Azure, AWS, OCI).

Hybrid Schedule

• 3 days / week on-site at Silver Spring, MD location; 2 days/week remote (main hospital is located in DC) as well as clinics throughout the DMV area

Senior Data Center Engineer (2 openings)

The Senior Data Center Engineer will play a crucial role in server engineering, leading the planning of maintenance and the development of strategies across various platforms. The ideal candidates should have strong expertise in Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, Active Directory, Cisco UCS, and complex IT troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of hardware and software upgrades

  • Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of server clusters

  • Operate in specialized client/server environments

  • Maintain and configure DNS and Active Directory services

  • Manage a variety of data storage systems

  • Automate routine tasks using Python or PowerShell

  • Document server environments for change control and technical repository

  • Utilize RHEL, VMware, Active Directory, and Cisco UCS

  • Support file and block data storage and backup systems

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in data center engineering or a similar role

  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, Active Directory, and Cisco UCS

  • Experience with complex IT troubleshooting

  • Proficiency in Python or PowerShell for task automation

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills

  • Ability to lead and manage projects effectively

Mid-Level Data Center Engineer:

The Mid-Level Data Center Engineer will support the senior engineers in maintaining and optimizing our data center infrastructure. They will assist in monitoring systems, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions under the guidance of senior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of server clusters

  • Support the implementation of hardware and software upgrades

  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues

  • Contribute to the documentation of server environments

  • Learn and develop skills in Windows Server, RHEL, VMware, Active Directory, and Cisco UCS

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 1-3 years of experience in data center operations or a related role

  • Familiarity with Windows Server, Linux, and virtualization technologies

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the data center engineering domain

Data Center locations

• Data Center located in Washington, DC at the main hospital

• Moving Data Center workloads to Equinix Data Center in VA

• Setting up Disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS)- facility located in Pittsburgh, PA

• Moving on-prem workloads to MS Azure, OCI, and AWS

o Setting up express routes and connectivity to the Cloud within AWS, OCI, and Azure

Technical Environment

• Deploy, manage, and monitor all aspects of our client's virtualization and cloud environments.

• Manage physical servers in the virtual ecosystem, hyperconverged storage and environments.

• VMware Cloud Foundation at Colo and deploying Tier0 Servers at DRaaS

• UCS Domain, Cisco Hyperflex HXDP version, vCenters and hundreds of ESXi servers.

• Administer virtual environment with over 180 Cisco UCS (C/B Series) Servers and thousands of productions VMs.

• UCS X-series Chassis, 6400 series FI and UCS Domain in Intersight Managed Mode (IMM) for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) setup for Workload Domain and vSAN nodes (Cseries) for Management Domain for Colo setup.

• Provision Boot LUNs and LUNs for VMware Datastores in Pure Storage

• Cisco MDS for zoning between Pure Storage and VCF Management Domain ESXi servers.

• Administer vCenter, VMware vSAN Cluster, vROps, vRLI, vRNI, Hyperflex and UCS Cluster

• Manage and Monitor Datacenter spanned across multiple sites.

• Coordinate/provide support and guidance to colleagues, juniors, and other IT teams.
