Discovery introduced Max, an enhanced streaming platform, in the U.S. HBO Max is currently available in 46 countries and there are plans for the continued global expansion of Max in 2024.

Meet Our Team

DTC’s many software engineering teams build applications for the web, mobile, tablets, connected TVs, consoles, and other streaming devices. Every customer starts their wonderful journey into the world of WBD through DTC’s Identity and Growth teams. We ensure customers can seamlessly authenticate and authorize across all WBD brands.

We are a fast-growing, global engineering group crucial to WBD’s future. We are looking for an engineering manager who is passionate about solving complex engineering challenges by coaching, leading, and mentoring a team of engineers. This position will oversee a critical backend team responsible for managing shared user session context across front-end and backend services. Our services deliver tailored context according to specified policy engine, which can be adjusted per product per market. The policy may cover content ratings, languages, users' geography, consents and potentially other relevant areas. You and your team will be instrumental in scaling our services to a platform that can efficiently onboard and bootstrap various products at minimal operational costs.

Roles & Responsibilities

You will lead a dedicated team to design and craft reusable and scalable platforms for different products in WBD. The team is currently based in US.

  • Build and manage a team of high-performing engineers. Ensure retention through challenging professional opportunities and career growth prospects.

  • You're driving and supporting teams' roadmaps to align seamlessly with the overarching long-term goals and vision of the team.

  • You provide guidance on design, coding, and operational best practices, and have a track-record of applying these best practices to software by showing people, not just telling people.

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders across platform, back-end, and client engineering; program management; champion engineering excellence.

  • Develop standards and toolset for efficient, cost effective, provisioning workflows.

  • Identify and manage partner relationships internally and externally to ensure smooth integration into the WBD product delivery process.

  • Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty associated with new product development.

  • Influence and champion process, tools, operations, and technological improvements to operate global scale cloud-based platform services.

  • Mentor other software development engineers throughout the organization, building the next generation of leaders.

  • Build self-service tooling to automate platform adoption of identity services for both internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience professionally in backend development, proficient in Java, with at least 3-5 years leading and managing software development teams.

  • A record of building, scaling, and growing teams of 5+ engineers and ownership of an engineer-first software service/product.

  • Strong technical understanding of Kubernetes-based microservice architectures, messaging services, DB services, API gateways, service mesh, and infrastructure-as-code technologies/processes.

  • Experience in large volume transaction systems, data migration workflows, with a focus on quality, precision, and accuracy metrics.

  • Ability to identify and operationalize workflows into a self-serve system with appropriate guardrails.

  • Experience building and operating global-scale large platform services in prod environments.

  • Experience establishing and improving data-driven infrastructure and service KPIs such as performance, scale, availability, reliability, security.

  • Experience working across cross-functional engineering teams as stakeholders and partners consuming a global platform service.

  • Effective communication skills, good balance of empathy, leading by example, player-coach as needed, influence and drive change.

  • Demonstrated experience with building systems using agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar).

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $175,700.00 - $326,300.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
