Director, AP Anatomy & Physiology College Board - AP&I Location: This is a fully remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office). Type:This is a full-time position About the Team The AP Team at College Board is dedicated to designing and launching new AP courses with the goal of expanding access to and diversifying student participation in AP. The development of new AP courses represents one of the primary goals of College Board and the AP Program. Our small team (consisting of 4 content directors for new courses, a research director, and the executive director for new courses) works very deeply with broader teams within AP Program Development, including the Curriculum and Assessment, Program Management, and Instruction teams. Together, we are responsible to conduct course research, design the new course frameworks and assessments, and lead school pilots before launching the courses. About the Opportunity As the Director of Anatomy and Physiology, you are responsible for leading the curriculum development, launch, and ongoing management of a new Advanced Placement course. You will lead the design of curriculum, instructional resources, and teacher professional learning resources for AP Anatomy and Physiology and serve as the primary point of contact with subject-matter experts across higher and secondary educations and health science professional organizations. As the Director, you will work closely with higher and secondary education committees and a diverse set of advisors to define a course and exam consistent with those offered in first-year higher education courses. In addition to leading curriculum development, you will work closely with the AP Science Department to manage the operational scoring of AP exam content, translating between academics and technical experts (test developers and psychometricians), and training a team of exam graders from secondary and higher education. You will oversee the production of instructional materials for AP students and professional learning materials for teachers planning to teach AP Anatomy and Physiology. Finally, as the Director, you serve as a primary spokesperson for AP Anatomy and Physiology, ensuring that the course is understood, accepted, and supported in secondary and higher education communities and among stakeholders beyond academia. You will support efforts to expand the invitation to AP for students, and through AP Anatomy and Physiology, encourage a greater diversity of students to participate in rigorous science coursework and cultivate interest in health science majors and careers. In this role, you will: Curriculum and Instruction * Develop the inaugural course framework and refine the framework based on feedback and piloting. * Collaborate with the AP Instruction team to develop new resources designed to address unmet teacher instructional needs, including developing instructional prototypes, and participating in market-testing. * Recruit, train, and directly supervise committee members in the development of course and exam materials. Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to execute project plans. * Develop professional learning materials for prospective AP Anatomy and Physiology teachers. Assessment * Collaborate with the AP Curriculum and Assessment team to build formative and summative assessments. * Collaborate in the review and approval of all AP Anatomy and Physiology exam, ensuring the exam development aligns with approved test specifications. * Monitor and improve exam validity and reader reliability in accordance with established AP Program thresholds. * Conduct multiple face-to-face and virtual meetings annually with each of the committees within the Director's stewardship, ensuring that stakeholder input is captured and considered. Strategic Growth * Manage AP Development Committee recruitment and membership; direct the overarching AP outreach strategy for the AP Anat my and Physiology committee. * Represent and increase support for the mission of the AP Anatomy and Physiology course. * Recommend strategies and approaches that will help the program effectively scale to support and encourage high adoption across urban, suburban, and rural school districts. Support translating the existing PD model to effectively address the needs of AP teachers in that discipline. * Work with the AP Higher Education team to co-develop and implement plans to raise college and university awareness of AP Anatomy and Physiology. * Assist efforts to recruit college faculty and experienced AP teachers to serve as AP graders; co-lead the planning and execution of discipline-specific AP Faculty Colloquia events. About You You have: * A master's degree in anatomy, physiology, or a related biological science or field, or extensive applied experience. PhD preferred. * Postsecondary or high school experience teaching introductory anatomy and physiology courses preferred; or, applied professional experience in nursing, medicine, or other health case fields with an aptitude to translate professional experience into an instructional setting * Experience with design and implementation of content, curriculum, and/or professional development preferred * Experience with curriculum and assessment development preferred * A strong background in adult learning preferred * Excellent organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously * Passion for expanding student access to rigorous coursework and careers in the health sciences * Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders from a range of professional backgrounds (academia, advocacy organizations, business) * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Skills in process and procedure development and implementation * Strong customer service orientation * Willingness to travel up to 25% * Eligible to work in the United States About Our Process * Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled * While the hiring process may vary, it generally includes: resume and application submission, recruiter phone screen, hiring manager interview, performance exercise and/or panel interview, and reference checks. The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $135,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
