Your Role

The Carrier Sales Manager: Cost Control will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing RPM’s Vehicle Carrier Procurement processes.  The primary focus will be on monitoring costs to ensure customer expectations are exceeded and costs align with current market conditions.  This role will be responsible for consistent analysis of carrier selection for optimal performance; including but not limited to carrier CAPs, max pay adjustments and approvals, cost negotiation, market trends, and shipment optimization.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting appropriate max pays on shipments to maximize profitability; specifically focus on customers and lanes with higher density and opportunity

  • Review and approve or negotiate carrier rates that surpass the max pay

  • Analyze market trends to ensure max pays and carrier costs are optimized for net revenue maximization; assist in cost negotiation

  •   Provide regular market recaps and outlook for Vehicle department

  • Find areas of opportunity in new or underperforming corridors for further carrier development and provide direction to Carrier Department on potential new carrier partners

  • Review available shipments and provide creative recommendations for consolidation or reconfiguration to maximize net revenue while ensuring customer expectations are met

  • Collaborate with Customer Sales and Operations to understand Customer SLAs and expectations

  • Provide recommendations for contract rates and capacity on consistent business.

  • Consistently review Carrier Sales practices to ensure accuracy and efficiency in rate negotiation and carrier selection

  • Provide regular analysis of historical cost data and carrier performance to identify areas for improvement

  • Coordinate with the CORE team to determine routing guide lanes, marketplace lanes, and FIFO management

  • Facilitate conversations with Carrier Reps and Carriers around dedicated lanes for both OEM and RRC customers, identifying backhaul and network fits

  • Review carrier performance on Tender-Acceptance and Carrier Scorecard for dedicated lanes

     

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze market trends, shipment data, and carrier performance metrics to identify opportunities for profitability optimization and cost negotiation

  • Experience in Vehicle Transportation Logistics: Proven experience in transportation logistics, particularly in setting appropriate maximum pays, negotiating carrier rates, and optimizing net revenue through backhaul rates and network synergies

  • Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of successfully negotiating carrier rates and terms to achieve favorable outcomes for the company

  • Effective Communication: Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization
