Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and manage research and development projects focused on data analytics in a variety of different application areas.

  • Develop data driven models for classification and modeling of system behavior.

  • Develop analytical and data driven models and algorithms to assess the condition of electro-mechanical systems.

  • Develop systems to collect image and operational signal data from electro-mechanical systems.

  • Interface with customers and lead development of government and industry proposals for external funding.

  • Prepare and present/publish project reports and research results.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering or computer science discipline;

  • Minimum of 1 year of internship, research or post degree work experience. Work experience should be directly related to machine learning or design/modeling of electro-mechanical systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to build machine learning models;

  • Ability to analyze electro-mechanical systems data;

  • Experience with Python ecosystem;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical, electrical or computer engineering degree

  • Masters degree preferred

  • 2 years or more of directly related work experience

Job Summary:

Please note: This position is a temporarily funded position with anticipated end date of February 28, 2025.

GIS conducts applied research in the area of sustainable manufacturing, and also provides technical assistance in a wide variety of areas to industry. We are looking for an engineer or scientist with a strong experimental and analytical background to support existing research programs in prognostics and health management (PHM), and data analytics.

Our primary application areas are transportation systems, including DoD systems, manufacturing equipment and processes, and embedded product monitoring. In our work environment, researchers work in multi-disciplinary teams on a wide variety of different types of products and technologies, work with undergraduate and graduate students, and are engaged in collaborative research with leading companies. The ideal candidate will have worked in the development of PHM systems in industry or government positions, or have significant experience in the analysis of function and failure of complex electrical or mechanical systems.
