GE Vernova Lead Technical Procurement Specialist – New Plant Projects in Remote, Ontario

Job Description Summary

GEH SMR Canada is responsible for the deployment of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) in Canada. In this role, you will support Canadian new plant project procurement efforts throughout the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) lifecycle of new and advanced nuclear projects. You will work cross-functionally and globally to develop and execute complex procurement packages in support of Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington X300 SMR project. Additionally, you will work cross-functionally in close partnership with GEH business teams to execute on key sourcing operations and project deliverables.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for large, complex procurement packages spanning the entire EPC lifecycle of new build projects.

  • Provide key procurement process interface with Engineering, Quality, Sourcing, Suppliers, Projects, Logistics, Commercial, Construction and Site personnel.

  • Work with global commodity leaders to develop work plans and sourcing schedule activities.

  • Work with project engineers and schedulers to include activities into project schedule.

  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality to develop procurement packages.

  • Send Procurement Packages and associated documents to suppliers for RFx and orders.

  • Point of contact for supplier questions and resolution of issues and non-conformances.

  • Oversee supplier schedule, progress updates, documentation submittals, and fabrication progress.

  • Serve as the lead supplier interface through testing, inspection, and delivery to site.

  • Point of contact for GEH teams to interface with the supplier.

  • Facilitate coordination to input and harmonize supplier schedule and project construction schedule.

  • Support Lean culture by working cross functionally to improve purchasing process and supporting systems.

  • Will be the GE SMR resident representative at a nuclear heavy equipment manufacturing facility, which is a key supplier located in Cambridge, ON.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college, university, OR high school diploma and 10 years of experience in procurement engineering.

  • At least five years of experience in sourcing, project management, commercial, engineering, manufacturing, or quality discipline in a technical and/or highly regulated industry.

  • At least 3 years of experience with ASME codes.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, to support in-person meetings at GEH SMR Canada’s Markham office and Ontario Power Generation’s office in Oshawa, ON as needed.

  • Ability to operate a computer proficiently

  • Onsite work in Cambridge, ON 5 days a week

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in fabrication of heavy equipment (pressure vessels) to ASME requirementsis preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in supply chain, business, or engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience with CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standards.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Nuclear industry experience; working knowledge of Nuclear Codes & Standards as they relate to procurement activities.

  • Basic technical knowledge, including (a) ability to read and understand engineering drawings, (b) basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical and materials component manufacturing specifications.

  • Experience in fabrication of heavy equipment is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and leadership skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service.

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities. Strong planning and time management skills.

  • Capable of working successfully in a matrix organization to drive results.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to completion, including cost and schedule control'
