Who are we looking for?

As a Principal Engineering Manager, have a proven track record leading and managing a team of engineers spanning all aspects of software engineering life cycle and a history of delivering highly available products and services with quality and on schedule. We need someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and obsessed with delivering world-class experiences that are performant and built for massive scale in a 24/7 world. The day-to-day responsibilities include a blend of technical, hands-on leadership with proven people management and partnership skills. 

What you’ll do:

  • Build, develop, grow and lead a team of high-performing engineers. 

  • Own the Viva Engage Communities product and platform, including its integration into M365, scale the platform to meet projected growth and innovate to grow usage and product market fit.

  • Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, User Research, and other Engineering teams within and beyond the organization, to drive strategic decisions and execution excellence.  

  • Provide oversight, accountability, and leadership for technical decisions with a bias for action. 

  • Create and foster a culture that drives engineering and service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain services with millions of users, operating in multiple global regions.

  • Continually seek deeper insights to improve the performance and scalability of our systems.

  • Experiment, A/B test key hypothesis to make data driven decisions.

  • Lead your team to build services and core components across Viva Engage and integrate across M365 applications.

  • Focus on scaling services to meet emerging enterprise needs, operability of the service including security, privacy, resiliency, business continuity & disaster recovery.

  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering to meet business requirements and deliver a delightful experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of people management experience leading high performing engineering teams.  

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience building large scale distributed systems and/or cloud applications for consumer or SaaS products.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
