Microsoft Corporation Principal Data Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Phone Systems is a growing multi-billion dollar business. Our team provides telephony and associated experiences to Teams, Skype and third party adoptions. Our team is called AI, Insights and Modeling (AIIM) that provides business intelligence, data and AI (artificial inteliigence)/ML (machine learning) services to the Phone Systems business.

We are hiring a passionate Principal Data Engineering Manager to lead a team of highly motivated and talented Data Engineers building highly scalable data platforms and deliver services and experiences for empowering Microsoft’s Teams Phone Systems Business to be successful. This is a unique opportunity to use your leadership skills and experience in providing the data towards building core technologies that will directly affect the future of Microsoft Phone system business that is currently a multi billion dollar business. You will be responsible for supporting Business Intelligence for the entire business while expanding the provisioning of data as a currency for the business lifeline.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a world class data engineering team.

  • Passionate about technology and obsessed about customer needs.

  • Champion data-driven decisions for features identification, prioritization and delivery.

  • Managing multiple projects, including timelines, customer interaction, feature tradeoffs, etc.

  • Delivering on an ambitious product and services roadmap, including building new services on top of vast amount data collected by our batch and near real time data engines.

  • Design and architect internet scale and reliable services.

  • Leveraging ML models knowledge to select appropriate solutions for business objectives.

  • Build relationship with our partner teams and stakeholders.

  • Help shape our long-term architecture and technology choices across the full client and services stack.

  • Understand the talent needs of the team and help recruit new talent.

  • Mentoring and growing other engineers to bring in efficiency and better productivity.

  • Experiment with and recommend new technologies that simplify or improve the tech stack.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of experience of building high scale enterprise Business Intelligence and data engineering solutions.

  • 3+ years of management experience leading a high-performance engineering team.

  • Experience using a variety of data stores, including data warehousing, in-memory caches, and document Databases.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using ML, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, exploratory data analysis.

  • Experience in designing and developing distributed systems on cloud platform.

  • Understanding of the value of Data, data exploration and the benefits of a data-driven organizational culture.

  • Lead and operate in cross-functional global organization.

Data Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
