Assistant/Associate Professor, Veterinary Oncology-Variable Track and Rank Available Title(s): 164-NNFACULTY - Clinical Assistant Professor - Career, 165-NNFACULTY - Clinical Associate Professor - Career, 166-NNFACULTY - Clinical Professor - Career, 270-NNFACULTY - Assistant Professor, 280-NNFACULTY - Associate Professor, 290-NNFACULTY - Professor Business Title: Assistant/Associate Professor, Veterinary Oncology-Variable Track and Rank Employee Type: Faculty Time Type: Full time Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: THE OPPORTUNITY: The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks to fill a full-time continuous career track (clinical track) or permanent tenure track faculty position in Oncology. The successful applicant will join two other full-time ACVIM board-certified oncologists and a dedicated team of residents, and licensed veterinary technicians. The Clinical Oncology Service, which includes radiation and medical oncology, is situated in Pullman, WA within the https://hospital.vetmed.wsu.edu/, the leading academic veterinary referral center in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest. The Department is open to flexible scheduling and novel appointment structures. The https://hospital.vetmed.wsu.edu/small-animal/cats-and-dogs/oncology/ is currently comprised of two boarded oncologists, one of whom is also a boarded radiation oncologist and the other a boarded small animal internist, and four residents. Staff in support of the service include two licensed veterinary technicians, a radiation therapy technician, a veterinary assistant, and a patient service coordinator to personalize the appointment schedule. Students are actively involved in all cases, and they enjoy the rotation. The service offers comprehensive cancer care working closely with other services, in particular surgery, neurology, cardiology, internal medicine, and emergency/critical care, to meet patient needs. For imaging oncology patients our radiology service has a 64-slice computed tomographic scanner, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography, plain radiography and fluoroscopy, and nuclear scanning. The oncology service offers chemotherapy, electrochemotherapy, and radiation therapy to a patient population with a diverse array of tumors. Our radiation service is installing a new Elekta Infinity linear accelerator with a broad spectrum of delivery techniques from 3D Conformal radiotherapy to IMRT and VMAT. We expect the new instrument to be installed in fall 2023, and it will allow much greater treatment capabilities for our patients. The service sees patients from all over the Pacific northwest, Alaska and western Canada with a weekly caseload of approximately 30 rechecks and 12-15 new patients. Roughly 300 patients are treated in radiation per year. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide clinical oncology service for the VTH, clinical and didactic instruction of professional veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students, and to conduct collaborative research/scholarship within the candidate's area of interest. Expectations for scholarship/research will be greater for a successful tenure track applicant, appropriate to rank. The successful applicant should be able to effectively communicate and work with people of diverse backgrounds. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (for all ranks): The candidate must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) degree or foreign equivalent degree (i.e., BVSc), and be board-certified or board-eligible in Oncology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, by the time of hire.
