The AbbVie Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team shapes the digital transformation necessary for our treatments to positively impact patients’ lives. In the role of Associate Director, Business Systems you’ll tackle complex challenges as you develop and diversify your professional experiences while helping others grow and develop their skills.

In this role, you will be a strategic interface within the BTS IR organization for the purpose of business-BTS strategy development, solution discovery, service management, risk management and relationship management to partner with the R&D Operations organization within Global Therapeutics, R&D Finance, and R&D Procurement.

The individual provides business facing strategic consulting and guidance for major Information Research (IR) initiatives for the business areas they support. This includes facilitating business discussions, working with the IR Domain Director, leading the planning and execution of technology initiatives enabling the R&D organization to achieve their business objectives through the effective use of technology. This role will communicate decisions, priorities, and relevant information to appropriate levels of staff regarding service requests, projects, and ongoing operations. They represent the Business Technology Solutions (BTS) organization by promoting AbbVie BTS’ vision, value, services, and capabilities. The individual will advocate on behalf of business stakeholders to ensure all technology services meet their business priorities and needs.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Leading Business System Consultants and analysts within IR, providing mentorship, and development opportunities to your direct reports and those seeking guidance outside of your team.

  • Working with internal and/or external stakeholders as a thought leader to align technology solutions with business strategies.

  • Ensuring IR solutions support the short-term and long-term business goals/strategy and align with our BTS strategy.

  • Driving and defining technology objectives and recommending industry-leading solutions to support business needs. Identifying technology solutions to support business growth and productivity.

  • Analyzing emerging technologies and working with business and IR Leadership to translate implications of the new trends into an effective technology vision and strategy.

  • Establishing and maintaining a strategic relationship with appropriate level key stakeholders.

  • Advising on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impacts on end-user products and services, business processes and system priorities.

  • Clearly and effectively communicate business value of technology programs to executive stakeholders.

  • Leading stakeholder (internal and, when appropriate, external) business planning and strategy meetings.

  • Participating in short- and long-term strategic planning sessions with R&D Operations, Finance and Procurement & Supplier Management stakeholders to improve business processes, and to promote business knowledge of IR process, roles, and procedures to ensure the best possible outcome.

  • Leading prioritization of IT initiatives based on organization(s) needs/strategy, IT workload and budget.

  • Being accountable for the refinement of project requirements for them to be estimated, the IR Demand initiation and coordination, and demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the IR service catalog.

  • Helping identify and mitigate potential problems and conflicts with IR delivery.

  • Actively participating in internal process improvement efforts.

  • Being responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate, Divisional and IT Policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Experiences that make you a strong candidate for this role:

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree with 9+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or PhD with 4+ years of experience in and/or supporting the Clinical Development Operations area within a life science organization.

  • Direct supervisory people leadership for minimum of 6 employees, management of multiple contractor and consultant resources and vendors, and leadership across functional teams.

  • Broad understanding of the clinical development business processes, especially related to asset, finance, and resource planning, forecasting and leadership reporting; clinical site and vendor contracting; and clinical site and vendor payments.

  • Leadership of cross-functional business planning and strategy meetings, experience working within a global environment in multiple time zones.

  • Capital projects financial planning and cost tracking experience, with working knowledge of project management methodologies, complex capacity plans, and procurement systems and best practices.

  • Experience with both Waterfall and Agile (SCRUM) methodologies and tools.

  • Experience in budget management, specifically handling multi-million dollar budgets.

  • Knowledge of outsourcing methodologies and operating models, and working with professional services firms.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business unit teams.

  • Strong organizational capabilities with ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
