Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Partnerships & Engagement Student Counselor II. Reporting to the Director of Partnerships and Engagement.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Support the increase in college retention and graduation rates within the Academic Foundations Center, with a particular focus on partnership students
  • Manage a student caseload focused on addressing the academic, financial, career, and personal needs of students; offers student support and monitors individual and group learning activities and workshops
  • Make appropriate contributions to student database systems and supports programmatic initiatives for students
  • Organize, administer, and coordinate multiple facets of programs, projects, and/or processes with the planning, preparation, evaluation, and control of communications, events, records, data, (reports - repetitive), and documents for the Director of Partnerships and Engagement;
  • Interpret agreements and ensure accuracy of deliverables
  • May work with students for placement in programs, internships, and travel abroad initiatives
  • Develop processes, evaluates program effectiveness, and identifies and recruits additional program resources
  • Assist with interviewing students, assessing service levels and program progress, and prepares appropriate recommendations
  • Serve as a liaison with various public and private institutions and agencies to determine special program requirements, modifications, or innovations
  • Provide work consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the administrative, academic, or research unit
  • May assist in research, classroom support, and applying for grants
  • Carry out routine and semi-routine work within work parameters for the unit and under general supervision
  • Perform professional work that requires knowledge of general program coordination practices and the application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the University and the Academic Foundations Center
  • Assist in the collection of the data required to prepare reports

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks; and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University and the external community
  • Requires the ability to work in a high profile, fast-paced, stakeholder focused, highly confidential, team environment
  • Also requires computer literacy and willingness to learn new RU-N and other platforms (i.e., CANVAS, RUN4SUCCESS, Teams, Box, Navigate, etc.)
  • Must be able to work under general supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions, while maintaining a professional demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
  • The Student Counselor must have experience working with underrepresented college students
  • They must be comfortable with the often-unique life and family circumstances of students, more specifically, first-generation, and low-income
  • They should have sensitivity to the challenges that students face and must overcome
