S ummary

An Architect will be involved in all MTA C&D Stations Business Unit project lifecycle phases , including planning, scheduling, analysis, design, technical specifications, and reports , and review capital projects in all stages of the project life cycle (pre-design through close-out phases).

Responsibilities

Designs/supervise various aspects of a project for the Stations Business Unit.

Extensive (about 60%) fieldwork.

Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create innovative architectural design projects.

Reviews designs, tests, and assesses materials and performs/reviews calculations.

Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and correctly identify design and construction risks.

Embraces mentoring from senior staff.

Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the discipline .

R eview projects across Program Areas to ensure that the station environment’s finish and appearance are not impacted using the Station Planning and Design Guidelines and Minimum Visual Impact Design Guidelines.

Will guide designers, operating departments, maintainers, and contractors to en sure Minimal Visual Impact and good aesthetic result s in construction projects.

R eview shop drawings during construction and survey any proposed deviation from the contract documents.

Will represent the Station Clearinghouse in design and construction progress meetings to ensure adherence to the Design Guidelines and agreements during field surveys.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Architecture degree.

Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.

Competencies:

Registered NYS Licensed Architect (RA) required.

Knowledge of the capital design and construction process.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in current design software and Microsoft Office are required.

Experience visiting the field for initial scope/survey and construction oversight preferred.

Ability to interact effectively with all internal and external staff, management, and contractors .
