Amazon Dangerous Goods Transportation Compliance Mgr, Global Transporation and Logistics in Nashville, Tennessee

Description

Amazon is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Dangerous Goods Transportation Compliance professional to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all hazardous materials and dangerous goods shipping policies comply with relevant regulations and standards. Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing robust regulatory compliance strategies, overseeing documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to uphold the highest standards of safety and legal adherence.

Key job responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive compliance strategies for the shipping of regulated Hazardous Material and Dangerous Goods.

• Stay current on transportation regulations, both domestic and international, and ensure the organization's practices align with these standards.

• Maintain knowledge of Hazardous Material and Dangerous Goods through continued education in International Air Transport Association (IATA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulatory compliance standards.

• Oversee the creation and maintenance of accurate documentation related to transportation compliance.

• Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions.

• Collaborate with logistics, operations, and safety teams to integrate compliance measures into daily practices.

• Provide training and guidance to employees involved in transportation activities to ensure understanding and adherence to compliance standards.

• Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external partners, addressing compliance inquiries and facilitating inspections.

• Stay informed about industry best practices and technological advancements to enhance compliance processes.

• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

• Prepare and submit reports on compliance status and performance metrics to senior management.

A day in the life

• Regulatory Compliance Monitoring: Regularly review and stay updated on transportation regulations to ensure the organization's practices align with legal standards.

• Documentation Oversight: Oversee the creation and maintenance of accurate documentation related to transportation compliance, including permits, licenses, and shipping records.

• Audits and Assessments: Conduct regular audits and assessments of transportation operations to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions.

• Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with logistics, operations, and safety teams to integrate compliance measures into daily practices and address any compliance-related challenges.

• Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to employees involved in transportation activities to ensure a clear understanding of and adherence to compliance standards.

• Liaison with Regulatory Agencies: Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external partners, addressing compliance inquiries and facilitating inspections.

• Industry Updates: Stay informed about industry best practices and technological advancements, integrating relevant changes into compliance processes.

• Relationship Building: Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

• Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on compliance status and performance metrics to senior management.

• Adaptation to Changes: Proactively adapt to changing regulations and industry dynamics, ensuring the organization remains compliant with the latest standards.

About the team

Global Transportation and Logistics is part of Amazon Ops Tech Solutions Supply Chain. Global Transportation and Logistics is responsible for providing logistics support for internal Amazon IT non-inventory.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, operations, supply chain, transportation logistics

  • 3+ years of regulatory and risk management experience

  • 2+ years of program or project management experience

  • Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements

  • Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization

  • Experience in analyzing data to drive decisions

  • Experience identifying and resolving complex issues

  • Knowledge of Excel at an intermediate level (e.g., pivot tables & charts, multiple criteria lookups, nested logical/IF formulas, data cleansing, array formulas, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, engineering, operations, supply chain, transportation logistics

  • 5+ years of regulatory and risk management experience

  • 3+ years of program or project management experience

  • PMP certificate

  • Experience of Six Sigma/ Lean analytical techniques

  • Experience in leading large, cross functional projects
