Job Description

This is a full time, twelve-month position responsible for serving as the training director in the School Psychology program providing supervision for doctoral interns, including interns placed at the SFA Charter School training site. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the department chair.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops relationships with internship sites that meet American Psychological Association ( APA )/National Association of School Psychologists ( NASP ) standards and identifies other potential sites for graduate student recruitment.

  • Oversees students’ application for internship placement (i.e. interviews, orientation, working with Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers ( APPIC )).

  • Establishes university-approved affiliation agreements between each of the placement sites and SFA .

  • Serves as the course instructor and contact person for all external site supervisors in problem solving, consultation, and evaluating trainees (required site visits).

  • Serves as the course instructor/key contact person and supervisor for the placement and service delivery and distance supervisor/consultant of all trainees placed as interns, which includes required physical presence and the primary directorship of interns placed at the SFA Charter School.

  • Maintains updated internship operations and practices (internship handbook) based on current APA standards.

  • Chairs at least one SFA Charter School – School Psychology Advisory Council meeting each semester of the academic year and provides ongoing updates to the council.

  • Develops accrediting body standard-based assessments and collection of data related to securing and maintaining accreditation of the SFA Charter School internship site.

  • Provides written reports to the faculty body as a standing member of regularly scheduled program meetings.

  • Engages in ongoing collaborative work with the accrediting body(ies), internship site administration, dean, department chair, internship advisory council, and program faculty and staff in leadership and supervision of placed interns, the collection of data, and development of reports required for application and/or maintaining APA accreditation for the SFA Charter School as a doctoral APA -accredited internship site.

  • Provides any required annual accrediting body reports and provides leadership in preparation for periodic site visits for the SFA Charter School internship site.

  • Develops required updated curriculum revision proposals based on professional standards in the electronic system that are related to facilitating students’ enrollment in doctoral-level practicum and internship.

  • Attends faculty meetings that provide feedback sessions to outgoing prospective interns and reviews annual applications to the SFA Charter School with faculty and school representatives for placement.

  • Attends all university, college, department, and SFA Charter School required meetings.

  • Assumes additional instructional load responsibilities as assigned by the academic unit head to maintain required load equivalence for position.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists’ administrative rules, NASP , and APA standards.

  • Doctoral-level knowledge in the area of applied psychology (school psychology) in assessment.

  • Doctoral-level knowledge of the APA professional ethical and legal standards in training and practice.

  • Knowledge of office management and records maintenance.

  • Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

  • Skill in effectively teaching and supervising graduate students.

  • Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students, clients, and family systems.

  • Ability to become licensed as a psychologist and as a specialist in school psychology ( LSSP ) in Texas.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

Terminal degree in applied area of psychology (i.e., school psychology, clinical psychology) is required.

Required Experience and Training

Three years of related experience is required. Experience in graduate-level teaching and supervision is required. Experience in K-12 as a school psychologist or related work in the K-12 setting and/or work with children and adolescents is required. Experience in assessment of children and adults from diverse backgrounds is required. Experience in supervision of practicum and internship students is required. Licensure as a psychologist and as a specialist in school psychology ( LSSP ) in Texas is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the Deep East Texas community, local ISDs, and community health agencies is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

Salary Information Commensurate with Experience

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
