Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. ​​​​​The App Dev team is hiring a Principal Software Engineer – Data, Microsoft Fabric to help build the v1 of SaaS-ified Data API and reusable custom business logic to build Trans-analytics applications in Microsoft Fabric. Our goal is to simplify the aspects of development, management, and operations for such applications with SaaS promise. Technically we cut across Distributed System, Cloud Services, UX and client dev tools, thereby having E2E ownership of the impact of the product as well as an ample opportunity to dive in challenges to solve. Responsibilities

  • ​Drive engineering initiatives from inception, hands-on experimentation, evaluation, design, and implementation to eventually shipping to the customers.

  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance, maintainability and reliability of our services and components.

  • Work across org boundaries to identify and build solutions that deliver value for our customers.

  • Work closely with Product managers, customers and their feedback, and service telemetry to identify new improvements in the product.

  • Participate in Livesite operations with emphasis on timely response, delivery & satisfaction for stakeholders.

  • Contribute to learning and growing together team culture and mentor engineers on the team by sharing knowledge, participating in Code reviews and Design reviews, leading by example to produce extensible and maintainable code, well thought architecture proposals and design docs.

  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of product while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.​

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of experience designing and implementing distributed systems.​

  • 6+ years of technical leadership in shipping and reliably operating high-quality cloud services and/or applications.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • ​​Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR master’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years of technical experience in building Web Frontend or Client tooling technology

  • Experience building cloud applications on public cloud providers like Azure, AWS or GCP

  • Demonstrated debugging, diagnosing, and troubleshooting skills for applications.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
