Job Overview:
Develops, implements and evaluates programs for orientation, competency assessment, training and continuing education for all levels of staff. Provides support for clinical practice at point of care. Role model for patient care practices through direct patient care.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor s degree in Nursing or health-related field
NJ RN License
AHA BLS Provider Certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or eligible.If not certified at hire, expectation to receive certification within one year of hire
Minimum of three years of experience in pediatric nursing
Knowledge of principles of adult learning
Experience using an electronic health record
Ability to communicate and collaborate with others effectively
Competent in use of all Microsoft Office applications
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served
Specialized knowledge in the nursing management and care of pediatric and|or rehabilitation patient problems and conditions
Knowledge of relevant educational content and appropriate methods of delivery and the ability to develop and facilitate relevant and effective education for adult learners
Skills to collaborate in developing and evaluating standards of care for patients that are evidence-based
Physical stamina and ability to safely lift and move objects and people
Preferred:
Master s Degree in Nursing or Education
American Heart Association CPR Instructor
PICU|NICU or pediatric rehabilitation experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
NJ RN License
AHA BLS Provider Certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within year of hire
Scheduling Requirements:
Full Time
40 hours/week
Occasional evenings/nights
Essential Functions:
Contributes to departmental and organizational philosophy, purpose, and goals. Acts as a change agent within organization
Provides an appropriate climate for learning, and facilitates the adult learning process by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities and directly or indirectly fostering the development of competence in the nursing staff
Assists learners to identify both their learning needs and the effective learning activities required to meet those needs while fostering a positive attitude about the benefits and opportunities of life-long learning
Collaborates with hospital staff and physicians in development of educational strategies, educational materials, policies and procedures, and clinical practice protocols and|or standards
Identifies changes that should be made in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach and facilitating the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change
Acts as both a formal and informal consultant assists with the integration of new learning into practice and serves as a resource by assisting staff in identifying problems, identifying available internal and external educational resources, and selecting educational options
Maintains educational records according to the requirements of hospital, organizational accrediting bodies, and regulatory agencies
Collects and analyzes educational data and statistics
Coordinates and evaluates nursing student affiliations
Models behaviors that reflect affiliations with professional organizations as well as the community
Maintains clinical competence in their area of specialty
Integrates ethical principles in to all aspects of practice
Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure that they maintain and enhance professional development that promotes the delivery of cost-effective high-quality healthcare
Evaluates his or her own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards, relevant statutes and regulations, and maintaining continuing professional nursing competence
Collaborates with others in the practice of nursing professional development at the institutional, local, regional and state levels
Participates in and uses evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes
Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning, delivering, and managing professional development activities
Ongoing contact with all hospital staff, physicians, administrators, volunteers, patient families and related agencies
Varied sites and environments (inpatient rehabilitation, long term care, outpatient) throughout Children s Specialized Hospital
Provides direction to new hospital staff during planned orientation and volunteers
