Position Summary: As a Lieutenant at East Mississippi Correctional Facility, you will report to the Chief of Security, directly supervising assigned sergeants. Your role is crucial in ensuring the custody and discipline of inmates in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, MTC, and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Serve as shift supervisor, conducting shift briefings.
  2. Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel, and evaluate assigned employees and inmates.
  3. Schedule employees' and inmates' work and off-duty time, assisting in formulating security and work procedures.
  4. Supervise and provide custody and security of inmates, including observation and supervision of work duty.
  5. Direct searches for contraband, including 'pat' and 'strip' searches.
  6. Transfer and transport inmates, restraining and securing assaultive inmates as needed.
  7. Read, review, and properly apply information from inmate records related to health, safety, and facility security.
  8. Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports.
  9. Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, carry injured or unconscious offenders, and use force in accordance with policies and regulations.
  10. Comply with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  11. Promote positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when necessary.
  12. Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property; adhere to safety practices.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned within capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of corrections experience in an adult correctional environment or related field, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.

Post-Hire Requirements:

  • Successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
