Position: Correctional Officer

Facility: East Mississippi Correctional Facility

Location: 10641 US-80, Meridian, MS 39307

Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour

Work Schedule: Full-time; 12-hour shift (day & night, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)

Position Summary: As a Correctional Officer at East Mississippi Correctional Facility, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and discipline of inmates, upholding American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough searches to prevent contraband entry and ensure security.
  • Oversee, count, and supervise inmates in various areas, including housing and work environments.
  • Maintain custody and security of inmates, including vigilant observation.
  • Perform security duties in assigned areas with precision and dedication.
  • Read, review, and apply information from inmate records to ensure health, safety, and facility security.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, forms, and reports to comply with regulations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working overtime when required.
  • Foster positive social skills among inmates by modeling appropriate behavior and intervening when necessary.
  • Uphold accountability for staff, inmates, and property while strictly adhering to safety practices.

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Preferred high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license in Mississippi or Alabama with an acceptable driving record (unless waived by management).
  • Successful completion of annual in-service training requirements.
