Technical Data Engineering Manager

We seek a Technical Data Engineering Manager with a unique blend of technical prowess, hands-on experience, and the vision to translate innovative ideas into world-class technical solutions. The Data Engineer Manager is responsible for building and Managing enterprise data engineering solutions using our cloud-based data platforms. This hands-on role will drive the delivery of data solutions for Strategic Projects, technical deliverables, and design, address day-to-day business needs, and support data engineering workloads in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead Data Engineers to deliver solutions from Concept to Implementation, actively driving technical design discussions.

  • Own data environments, integrate new technologies, and drive the development of robust solutions, ensuring excellence across the entire data life cycle — from data generation and storage to ingestion, transformation, serving, monitoring, and beyond.

  • Have a direct impact on team growth through mentorship, coaching, and identifying growth opportunities.

  • Manage and develop solutions to address data quality, metadata management, data operations, performance, and scalability, maintaining the highest standards throughout the data life cycle.

  • Manage orchestration processes to streamline workflows and ensure seamless integration across the data ecosystem.

  • Lead Data Engineers in dissecting intricate data issues and finding effective resolutions. Construct resilient solutions focusing on enduring maintenance and support, ensuring sustained efficiency over time.

  • Perform unit tests, ensuring code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and tuned for performance.

  • Have a direct impact on team growth through mentorship, coaching, and identifying growth opportunities.

Collaboration:

  • Drive all interactions with business stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize, and provide visibility to delivery timelines and commitments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams, influencing and driving design and development through technical guidance, leadership, and mentoring.

  • Foster collaboration across functional IT teams to ensure alignment on project objectives, design principles, and development approaches.

Leading and Managing:

  • Engage and influence internal partners, managing all aspects of agile ceremonies.

  • Allocate resources to ensure commitments align with strategic objectives.

  • Leverage strong problem-solving skills to address challenges swiftly and ensure the seamless execution of data engineering projects.

  • Foster collaboration across functional IT teams to ensure alignment on project objectives, design principles, and development approaches.

  • Effectively communicate and gain alignment within and with interdependent teams and stakeholders.

Process Improvement:

  • Drive continuous improvement, implementing best practices for streamlined workflows and a reliable data platform.

  • Proactively manage and support risks the engineering team encounters, utilizing a problem-solving approach to implement practical solutions.

  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis for issues, ensuring that solutions are reactive and preventive.

  • Mitigate escalations and drive continuous improvement to prevent recurring problems, recognize system deficiencies, and implement efficient solutions.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and efficiency within the data engineering team.

Base Qualification

  • 10+ years of industry experience designing and building distributed data Platforms.

  • 5+ years of Management experience

  • 5+ years of data warehousing experience (Snowflake), SQL Server, Azure

  • Deep experience with systems architecture and design to develop Data Solutions

  • Proven experience/ability/knack to build subject matter knowledge in the individual data domain and be an authority to guide development teams.

Preferred Technical Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in development, including Python, SQL, Scala, or Java

  • 3+ years of experience working on real-time data and streaming applications.

  • 3+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

  • Proficiency in the entire data life cycle, focusing on data quality, metadata management, and data ops.

  • Proficiency in the data life cycle with a focus on data quality, metadata management, and data ops.

  • Experience managing complex projects and ensuring teams meet deadlines.

  • Exposure to various technical stacks and tooling (Snowflake, , Databricks, Azure and AWS Data solutions, Matillion, DBT, Airflow Orchestration, etc.)

  • Experience in Data ecosystem tools for real-time batch data ingestion, ETL processing, and Reporting

  • Experience managing security aspects of data engineering projects, including implementing secure data practices.

  • Prior background in supply chain or distribution industry/domains would be a Plus.
