Position Summary Responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Laboratory Instrument Support (LIS) Team at the company's research and development site in Kalamazoo, Michigan.Provides first-line supervision of technical support engineers and other staff who provide site services including scientific equipment technical support, metrology services, bench-top computer systems support, equipment asset life-cycle management; and audio/visual technical support.

Responsibilities: *Collaborates with key science leads, scientific equipment vendors, procurement personnel, and facilities & maintenance personnel to implement cost-effective support models for multiple categories of scientific equipment and instrumentation critical to the success of the organization. *Develops and monitors service-related objectives, budget forecasts, and key performance metrics that are aligned with the strategies and priorities of the R&D science units and other supported business areas. *Regularly monitors and evaluates the team's effectiveness, quality, coverage, and efficiency with respect to performance objectives and budget.Develops strategies to continually improve the team's service quality where opportunities exist. *Maintains a highly effective and diverse talent base within the team by employing best-practice talent identification and hiring practices, actively coaching and mentoring team members, ensuring the technical competencies of the team remain aligned with the needs of the supported business areas, and by setting high expectations for both individual and team performance. *Ensures GLP compliance and audit readiness with respect to supported equipment used in GLP study work. This includes management of standard operating procedures and ensuring these procedures are consistently followed for equipment calibration, preventative maintenance, and user-initiated maintenance requests. *Manages equipment spare parts inventory spend, onsite staffing levels, and 3rd-party scientific equipment support agreements to meet lab customer needs within in approved operating budget. *Manages the site's audio/visual support function, including management of technical staff, A/V room equipment budgeting and planning, and A/V operations support staff for meetings and events. *Serves as a key contributor on site projects involving laboratory design and construction, including participation in project planning, design reviews, and other lab remodeling and construction activities.

Required Qualifications *Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biological sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering, physics, electronics, or related area. *5+ years of relevant full-time working experience in providing laboratory automation support, analytical instrument support, metrology services and/or analytical process/systems implementation. *3+ years of experience in the supervision of a skilled technical team with proven team building and leadership skills and experience. *Experience in managing service contracts and 3rd-party service providers. *Strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices and experience working in a GLP-regulated operation. *Excellent interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills. *Proven track record of building trust and good working relationships/partnerships with direct reports, peers, management, customers, and suppliers. Proven ability to effectively communicate across organizational boundaries and organization levels. *Experience with at least two or more of the following categories of laboratory instrumentation: HPLC/UPLC, MS, LC/MS, GC/MS, NMR, Spectrophotometer, and/or experience with two or more of the following automation systems: Automated Liquid Handlers, Plate Storage, Sample Prep, Blood Analyzers, Cell Sorters.
