Robert Half Network Engineer in Jacksonville, Florida

Description

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our organization's network infrastructure. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our network systems, while also supporting the evolving needs of the business. This role requires a deep understanding of networking principles, protocols, and technologies, as well as strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Network Design and Architecture: Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure network solutions to meet the organization's current and future needs. Develop network architecture blueprints, diagrams, and documentation to guide implementation and troubleshooting efforts.

  • Network Implementation and Configuration: Configure and deploy network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. Implement network protocols, VLANs, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and VPNs to ensure efficient and secure communication between network segments and remote sites.

  • Network Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security measures to protect the organization's network infrastructure from cyber threats, unauthorized access, and data breaches. Configure firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and access control lists (ACLs) to enforce security policies and compliance requirements.

  • Network Monitoring and Performance Optimization: Monitor network performance, traffic patterns, and utilization using network monitoring tools. Identify and troubleshoot network issues, bottlenecks, and performance degradation. Implement optimizations and tuning to improve network reliability, availability, and performance.

  • Network Troubleshooting and Incident Response: Diagnose and resolve network-related issues and outages in a timely manner. Conduct root cause analysis to identify underlying problems and implement corrective actions. Respond to network incidents and participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support.

  • Change Management and Configuration Control: Manage network changes and configurations using change management processes and tools. Document network configurations, changes, and procedures to maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of network assets and configurations.

  • Vendor Management and Collaboration: Collaborate with third-party vendors, service providers, and contractors to procure network equipment, services, and support. Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure quality of service and timely resolution of issues.

  • Capacity Planning and Scalability: Conduct capacity planning assessments to anticipate future network requirements and growth. Scale network infrastructure and resources as needed to accommodate increased demand, new applications, and business expansion.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Minimum of X years of experience in network engineering or a related role.

  • Strong knowledge of networking principles, protocols, and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless networking.

  • Hands-on experience with network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or Palo Alto Networks.

  • Familiarity with network security concepts and technologies, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and encryption protocols.

  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools, such as Nagios, SolarWinds, Wireshark, or Cisco Prime.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) preferred.
