Job Description

The Planning and Development Department is actively seeking a Building Inspection Training and Outreach Coordinator.

This is professional work in planning, developing, conducting, implementing, and coordinating training and outreach strategies for the Building Inspection Division. Work requires a basic understanding and application of the theories, principles, and practices of educational and/or workplace training, usually gained through degree granting schools, or an equivalent level of practical knowledge gained through experience. Contacts with others require skills in understanding people, sensitivity to others' points of view, persuasiveness, assertiveness, and the ability to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. The work is performed primarily in an office environment though the employee may be required to make visits to other locations or training sites. The employee plans and organizes the work, determines their own priorities, and the work is reviewed in terms of quality, volume, timeliness, and adherence to established methods, standards, and policies. Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers. The physical demands are minimal. Work is performed under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures, practices, and techniques, and the work is reviewed for results achieved.

Examples of Work

  • Plans, develops, implements, monitors, and coordinates an array of monthly/quarterly/annual training programs and objectives for the Building Inspection Division employees and external customers.

  • Ensures that the appropriate actions are taken to create a positive learning environment for Building Inspection Division employees and customers.

  • Facilitates the evaluation of training programs and content by compiling data and preparing written and statistical reports.

  • Trains other employees on principles, practices, and procedures of the JaxEPICS permitting program.

  • Supports using agencies and independent authorities in outreach activities and training sessions.

  • Recommends and assists in the development of standard operating procedures.

  • Maintains Building Inspection Division webpage, training records and files.

  • Assists in the development and administration of the training budget.

  • Researches, compiles data, prepares correspondence and technical reports as required.

  • Determines and schedules training classrooms, facilities, or other appropriate venues, including preparation of training materials and related equipment.

  • Conducts one on one orientation with new Building Inspection Division employees.

  • Responds to inquiries from the general public.

  • Serves as a liaison between vendors, contract personnel, and external customers, ensuring policies, procedures and practices are followed and issues resolved.

  • Operates a computer using word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and JaxEPICS.

  • Performs basic administrative tasks as required.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.

  • Performs related work as required.

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five years of education and/or experience in training adults, business, community relations or closely related field.

  • Professional experience in construction management, architecture, or engineering preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • The probationary period for this class is six (6) months.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

  • A valid driver’s license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained.

  • Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain and maintain during employment City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification.
