Google Quantum Measurement Engineer, Hardware in Goleta, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2 years of experience using software for hardware interfacing and data analysis.

  • 1 year of experience in industry or academic research.

  • 1 year of experience with programming.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience calibrating qubit systems.

  • Experience with superconducting qubits (e.g., single and two qubit operations, readout).

  • Experience working in a collaborative software environment (e.g., version control, code review, style guides).

As a Quantum Measurement Engineer, you will own and streamline the calibration and characterization procedures for our quantum processors. You will be responsible for ensuring we have an efficient and reliable procedure for device bringup, maintenance/recalibration, and benchmarking of large-scale devices such as the Sycamore processor, as well as fast-turn experimental devices.

In this role, you will work with research scientists and engineers to implement prototype control and benchmarking techniques and support their development into automatable, scalable, and maintainable technologies.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Develop and maintain an automated calibration system capable of achieving repeatably high-performance on large-scale superconducting qubit processors.

  • Work with algorithms researchers to ensure processors can reliably perform high-fidelity operations for their experiments.

  • Calibrate and characterize superconducting qubit devices (large and small scale).

  • Work with research scientists to prototype control and benchmarking techniques towards productionization.

  • Develop software tools for longitudinal data analysis and visualization.
