Gaylord is located in south central Minnesota about an hour west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord is the "Hub of Sibley County." The position is responsible for MFI carrier programs, load-planning operations, service requirements, regulatory matters involving legal drive time for commercial drivers and distribution center operations. The coordinator also manages Midwest shuttle operations-especially the Chaska potato shuttles. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In conjunction with Transportation Operations Manager and Distribution Center Manager, develops standard operating procedures for transportation functions at the DC that directly affect transportation and warehouse cost and service. Provides review and control of drop trailer programs and dock scheduling for outbound shipments at Gaylord. Anticipates and investigates various ways of improving methods and reducing costs. Must analyze the impact on each functional area of any transportation coordination decisions at the DC, while striving to minimize cost and improve service. Measure on -time loading and departure performance at the DC and report results, while working with carrier, transportation management and warehouse management to improve performance where necessary. Determines how many trucks can be loaded and unloaded each day at the DC and schedules appointments accordingly. Communicates equipment needs to carriers in advance to allow for carriers to adequately respond. Communicates truck loading and unloading needs in advance to warehouse management so the equipment and staff planning can be accomplished. Develops standardized practices and procedures to maintain a coordinated information flow relative to transportation activity at the DC. Reviews, updates and monitors compliance of carrier drop trailer program to improve service and utilization of equipment and dock doors. Develops and maintain rapport with carrier management and operations. Assists transportation planners with drop change sequencing, releasing loads to warehouse and tendering freight to carriers. Provides follow up communication with carriers, transportation management and customer service regarding late or potentially late deliveries. Works with carrier, warehouse and transportation planners to optimize trailer utilization without cover-cubing trailers, and to reduce shipment overages, shortages and damages. Responsible for planning shuttles and coordinating outbound carrier activities needed to support the Chaska, MN potato facility. Understands the impact coordination decisions have on every functional area. Monitor performance, address concerns and strive to improve service and reduce cost. Responsible for planning shuttles and coordinating outbound carrier activities for all frozen production made at Gaylord, MN. Supervises all carrier and transportation activity at the Gaylord distribution center, Cloverleaf-Lakeville outside storage facility and Chaska-MN production plant. Other Duties as assigned Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 3-5 years of experience in a distribution center / plant environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Solid PC skills PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Experience with SAP and Transportation management systems (TMS). Skilled and experienced in process improvement and development of standard operating procedures. Organized team player with excellent people skills
