WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY ADA Learning Specialist in Dayton, Ohio

Job Purposes: Under the general direction of the Associate Director, the ADA Learning specialist is responsible for the coordination and implementation of academic strategies/accommodations to facilitate academic access and promote the successful integration of students with learning disabilities, as well as other diagnoses, into the college learning environment. This position also focuses on supporting staff, faculty accommodation requests, and guests with disabilities to ensure ADA compliance, along with collaborating with campus facilities to address environmental access concerns.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

Learning Specialist 55%:

  • Design strategic learning plans and provide one-on-one strategy instruction for students with disabilities; provide ongoing support and advocacy
  • Collaborate with Disability Specialists within the department to support students
  • Develop/coordinate a network of academic support services for students with learning disabilities
  • Maintain appropriate records by documenting communication with and regarding students and recording recommended courses of action
  • Develop and implement professional training for faculty and staff on disability awareness and issues impacting students with disabilities
  • Conduct orientation sessions for incoming students with disabilities
  • Participate in college, division, department meetings, events and training as recommended and approved by supervisor
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, college committees, work groups and task forces, and other professional organizations as approved by supervisor.

Staff /Faculty and Guest Accommodations 25%:

- - Assist in processing requests for reasonable accommodations for staff, faculty, and guests with disabilities - Collaborate with staff, faculty, and healthcare providers to gather necessary documentation - Track and manage accommodation requests and ensure timely responses - Maintain accurate records of all accommodation requests and outcomes - May create and present ADA trainings and workshops to faculty, academic advisors and staff to further develop best practices

Environmental Access 15%:

  • Work with the Facilities department to identify and address physical barriers to access in university buildings and grounds
  • Collaborate with event organizers to ensure accessibility considerations are incorporated into planning
  • Assist with planning and coordinating accommodations for guests with disabilities attending university events

Other Duties 5%:

  • Maintain current knowledge in disability support services regulations, laws, and industry practices and advancements
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related to those listed above which do not alter the basic level of the position
