ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Aggregates Operational Performance plays a crucial role in driving operational efficiencies and embedding excellence within Holcim’s US Aggregates business. This leadership position is integral to driving the organization towards its strategic objectives, including operational efficiency, financial success, environmental responsibility, and safety. Closely collaborating with the regional US businesses the individual will implement continuous improvement processes, champion digital transformation, and embrace sustainable solutions. The role demands a strategic visionary capable of leveraging technical and commercial expertise to optimize plant operations and capital planning. The Director will have oversight of all capital investments related to the Aggregates, Concrete, Paving, and Asphalt businesses. This role also manages the operational aggregates performance systems, processes, and tools in addition to overseeing the Heavy Mobile Equipment fleet management. Through effective stakeholder management, analysis, and team leadership, the Director will ensure Holcim’s Aggregates business not only meets but exceeds its performance goals.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As the Director of Aggregates Operational Performance, your role will be multifaceted, focusing on strategic leadership, operational excellence, and fostering a culture of innovation and safety. Your key activities will include:

  • Health, Safety and Environmental Leadership: Lead by example in prioritizing these important topics, establishing a culture that strives for zero incidents. You will be instrumental in enhancing all company policies and practices.

  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Involved in strategic reviews as needed. Your expertise will be crucial in M&A; due diligence, and ensuring strategic alignment and operational synergy.

  • Operational Systems and Performance Improvement: Ensure the appropriate manufacturing systems, processes and tools are in place to achieve excellence in asset utilization, plant performance, and capital investments. Drive continuous improvement through effective management and leveraging of KPIs. Conduct on-site performance reviews when needed. Manage Operational Improvement Monthly meetings with Aggregates General Managers. Facilitate the sharing of best practices across all regions, creating a collaborative space for innovation and improvement.

  • Capital Expenditure and Business Case Development: Collaborate with regional teams to prepare and submit Capital Expenditure requests, building robust business cases to support strategic investment decisions.

  • Product Development and Technical Support: Working together with the business leads, spearhead the development of innovative and sustainable aggregates products.

  • Team Management and Development: Inspire and lead a team of professionals, focusing on achieving high performance and fostering an environment conducive to growth and excellence.

  • Reports directly to Vice President of Strategy and Business Performance

  • Works closely with the Regional Senior Vice Presidents and other US functional teams: Safety, Strategy,

  • Marketing, Procurement, Environment, Human Resources and Finance

  • Team of 7. Direct Reports 5 (Capital & Performance Systems Director, Performance Managers (x4))

  • Specific Accountabilities:

  • Aggregates Performance operational improvement. Drive performance improvement leveraging KPIs and a team of experts embedded in the business.

  • Capital deployment – direct accountability for capital allocation of the US ACM (Aggregates & Construction Materials) business

  • Develop and nurture team that seamlessly works with the regional businesses.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree or 10+ years of equivalent experience.

Additional Education Preferred: Master's degree

Field of Study Preferred: Engineering, or related technical discipline, Business Administration

Required Work Experience: Minimum of 10+ years to include experience in aggregates operational performance, P&L and team management. Experience in running and optimizing aggregate sites. General Manager or Operational Manager experience is ideal.

Required Computer and Software Skills: Microsoft Office, Google platform

Travel Requirements: 25%

Additional Requirements:

  • Comprehensive understanding of Aggregates business

  • Knowledge of surface mining, crushing, and screening principles. Underground mining experience as a plus

  • Demonstrated strong results across Functional role(s) and direct Business Management experience

  • Strong supervisory and people skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Problem solving and analytical skills

  • Disciplined and process-oriented

  • Self-starter, driven, assertive

  • Ability to influence decision making

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
