Job Description Summary Responsible for technical leadership and development of functional safety technologies and standards for use in Rockwell Automation products. These core product lines might involve Programmable Automation, Communications, I/O systems or Industrial Automation Software. These are industry-leading industrial automation products. In this position, you will define, design and develop new features and platforms that meet Functional Safety standards, and customer expectations. Development is performed in a team environment utilizing sound engineering and software development practices and technology, and typically involves highly complex system design or product architecture design. Responsibilities include developing and documenting safety concepts, as well as collaborating with individuals and teams who execute the implementations. What you will do : Does advance work, including requirements, on a feature before a development team is in place. Evaluates the suitability of that technology to meet our business and engineering objectives. As part of this, work directly with suppliers to arrive at the information we need to make informed judgements. Participates with technology management, product marketing and development engineering to establish project objectives and requirements related to functional safety. Evaluates technology solutions. Creates safety concepts for next generation capabilities or products. This includes the ability to do deep technical analysis of reliability metrics, failure modes, diagnostic coverage, etc., in order to determine feasibility of approaches to meet targets established by international standards. Develops architectural designs and complex system designs that meet the requirements. Provides skills needs and time estimation for the design. Considers tradeoffs between requirements, speed, cost and reliability in the choice of a design approach. Successfully presents technical approaches with sound qualitative and quantitative analysis to certifying agencies. Maintain technical expertise in field. Keep current through contacts with educational institutions, professional societies, and technical publications. Maintain awareness of applicable new technologies, processes, and competitive trends. Promote and coordinate, technical activities with standards organizations, consortia, government agencies, leading universities and other Rockwell organizations. May be asked to participated in standards activities. Functions as a go-to person for functional safety expertise. Consults across multiple teams. Assist as requested with problem resolution, product design reviews, and technical strategy analysis and development. Significantly contribute to the development and implementation of the product strategic direction in functional safety. Clearly conveys design concepts, both verbally and written. Understand complex control system concepts. Conduct tasks following applicable health, safety, quality and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, etc.) as w
