Department Summary:

MITRE's Nuclear Weapons and C2 Platforms Department is seeking a Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors and their missions face. We provide technical guidance through rigorous modeling, simulation, and analytical methods to enhance program decision making and risk management. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise. The selected candidate will contribute to advancing and providing cutting edge systems and resiliency engineering services for an Air Force Weapons System Program Office at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

This position is located with the Sponsor at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership within MITRE and within our sponsor organizations to ensure delivery of safe, reliable, and effective weapon system communications and networking systems, while considering a broad range of factors to include operational requirements, cybersecurity, cryptography, mobile force integration, and human systems integration.

  • Cultivate strong, trusted working relationships with our Air Force Nuclear Enterprise sponsors by understanding their needs and helping them solve their toughest problems.

  • Lead and contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related field and 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills for interaction with sponsors, project leaders, team members, and other government agencies. Must have the ability to coordinate and collaborate across engineering teams and with representatives from a wide range of government, not-for-profit, and commercial organizations.

  • Experience working in collaborative team environments.

  • Broad technical knowledge to include communications, test, NC2/NC3, and operations.

  • Ability to self-organize with minimal oversight.

  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of Government and Military leadership.

  • General understanding/familiarity with NC2/NC3 Systems and Architectures

  • Understanding of DoD test and evaluation, requirements verification, determining test readiness

  • Demonstrable experience in RF, networking, and systems engineering.

  • Knowledgeable in current and evolving DoD and commercial communications systems.

  • Substantial experience in writing technical reports with meaningful success in influencing technological plans and strategy.

  • Experience in assessing test report, developing test plans, and refining test procedures.

  • Experience working with combined test activities, Air Force Operational Test & Evaluation Center, or other AF or DoD test agencies.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Possess an active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to acquire and maintain a Top-Secret/SAP clearance.

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on large acquisition programs.

  • Experience working complex system of systems architectures.

  • Knowledge of system engineering methods for system and system-of-system architecture design

  • Ability to work independently to learn new technologies, techniques, processes, software languages, platforms, and systems.

  • Fundamental understanding of design principles and concepts

  • Familiarity with modeling tools; can read and understand modeling architectures and design patterns.

  • Experience conducting research and analysis to drive technical recommendations.
