Position : Lead Data Engineer - Business Markets

Location : Cincinnati, OH

Job Purpose :

The Lead Data Engineer -- Business Markets is responsible for data enablement and data modeling, including the development and optimization of data pipelines, supporting all functional areas inside of altafiber's Business Markets. The Lead Data Engineer -- Business Markets will work directly with the Business Markets Analytics and Insights team along with the Business Markets leadership and sales teams to support their data and analytics initiatives, ensuring data delivery is accurate, accessible, and optimized for analysis.

Essential Functions :

  • Collaborates with Business Markets data analysts and Business Markets stakeholders to develop data models that enable business intelligence applications, increase data accessibility, and foster data-driven decision making across the organization.

  • Working alongside the Lead Data Architect, ensure that security, data governance and operational best practices and procedures are adhered to.

  • Develops and administers self-service models, supporting enhanced reporting and analytics for Business Markets end users.

  • Designs and assembles large, complex datasets into logical models to meet analytic and business requirements.

  • Designs and implements internal process improvements including automation and data delivery optimizations.

  • Designs and implements processes to check data quality, ensuring production data is accurate and available.

  • Performs analysis needed to troubleshoot data related issues and supports timely resolution.

Education :

Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Relevant Work Experience :

  • 3-5 years

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.

  • Experience in manipulating, processing, and extracting information from large or disconnected datasets.

  • Experience building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines and data sets.

  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and find opportunities for improvement.

  • Strong communications skills and a willingness to learn about the business (pain-points, key drivers of success, etc).

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service

  • Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies.

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Process oriented with great documentation skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service

Supervisory Responsibility :

This position does not have employee direct reports but does serve as a "lead" role for others doing similar work
