Job overview and responsibilities

Exciting opportunity to be a part of a brand new best-in-class data science & analytics team from the world’s best and largest airline. An entrepreneurial and meticulous Senior Data Engineering / Machine Learning Ops Manager who oversees the development of data for measurement and reporting across United’s digital media.

  • Responsible for the overall design, development, and implementation of data engineering / ML solutions

  • Manage team of data engineers to execute data product roadmap and build reliable data infrastructure and pipelines (ingestion, integration, ETL, real-time connectors) to support measurement and reporting across AdTech products

  • Ensure connections with relevant endpoints for data ingestion are built and operate properly

  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure business needs are translated to data needs and requirements

  • Manage vertically to ensure clear lines of communication to ensure that stakeholders organization wide are aware of key data and ML developments

  • Continuously push ML team to drive value add insights derived from data

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related field

  • 5+ years hands-on industry experience in Data Engineering or Machine Learning (or equivalent quantitative job title) with increasing managerial responsibilities

  • Profound technical acumen in machine learning, with practical coding skills in Python, Java, and R.

  • Experience with ML frameworksand libraries (TensorFlow, Pytorch, Keras, Scikit-Learn, Spark MLib, Langchain etc.), coupled with a solid understanding of data structures, modeling, and software architecture.

  • Deep technical knowledge of data engineering and comfort interpreting complex reports

  • Strong collaborator with cross-functional teams from tech, design, and business and experience leading teams in an agile setting

  • Ability to translate complex business needs to actionable tasks for ML team

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)

  • Ability to communicate and explain data and its implications to various senior stakeholders

  • Ability to evaluate different options proactively and to solve problems in an innovative way, developing

  • New solutions or combining existing methods to create new approaches

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Advanced Computer Engineering degree

  • Experience with AdTech / advertising technology, particularly in designing solutions that enhance ad targeting, measurement, and optimization.

  • Familiarity or hands-on experience with generative AI and large language models, understanding their potential impact on machine learning and ad tech innovations.
