New York Botanical Garden Academic Manager, Continuing Education in Bronx, New York

Basic Functions

NYBG’s Academic Manager, Continuing Education is an experienced education leader responsible for ensuring curriculum meets the needs of students and exceeds industry standards. The Academic Manager works closely with the Director of Continuing Education, the Digital Learning team, and instructors to strengthen curriculum, diversify instructional strategies, help hire and onboard new faculty, support online learning, and assist with staff departmental events and operations, as needed. This position also helps shape NYBG’s overall growth strategy by analyzing enrollment data and student evaluations to propose new course ideas and course refinements.

Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and actively helps to build and maintain an inclusive organizational culture throughout the institution.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under the Director of Continuing Education, serves as team lead for curriculum and course development, including certificate and non-certificate courses, workshops, masterclasses, lectures, symposia, and other special programs

  • Oversees course and session scheduling; ensures certificate class schedules are appropriately sequenced for student progression

  • Reviews and analyzes Continuing Education curricula for consistency and quality

  • Supervises the evaluation process, managing course observation policies and protocols (in collaboration with the School of Professional Horticulture); analyzes and implements instructor feedback to maintain the highest level of course quality

  • Collaborates with Senior Content Manager to accurately reflect course and program information via marketing and media

  • Ensures compliance with BPSS standards for relevant disciplines

  • Trains and supervises academic content staff

  • Works with the Director of Continuing Education and the Digital Learning team to support asynchronous, flexible online course development

  • Supports curriculum development by proposing new courses, reviewing syllabi and scripts, and collaborating with subject matter experts

  • Serves as an integral part of the production process, creating content, reviewing recordings, helping with video production, and troubleshooting issues as they arise

  • Works with the Curriculum & Instruction Coordinator to support faculty by

  • Leading orientations for new and returning instructors

  • Overseeing Professional Development for instructors

  • Supports Registration Office with departmental events and operations, both in person and online

  • Completes additional tasks as needed

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Must have experience working in a formal or informal educational setting, either in person or online, with experience at a botanical garden, museum, or other cultural institution preferred

  • Prior experience developing curriculum and coordinating programs or workshops required

  • Demonstrated commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in Education

  • Experience using online learning tools such as Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura, Accredible

  • Experience implementing electronic program evaluation tools such as SurveyMonkey

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Demonstrated project management skills; PMP certification a plus

  • Creative thinker

  • Familiarity with botany, horticulture, landscape design, botanical illustration, or a related field preferred

  • Available weekends and evenings as needed

    Salar y is commensurate with experience within the range of $67,500-$75,000
