Advanced Technology and Research Corporation Linux System Administrator in Bethesda, Maryland

Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000 USD per year

Advanced Technology & Research Corporation (www.atrcorp.com) is seeking to fill the following full-time permanent position. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering Services Division, working as a team member at our government client site involved in provision and managing High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster of Linux server for Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, West Bethesda.  Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Install and configure Linux operating systems, firmware, software, and network on HPC clusters

  • Perform server hardware maintenance and upgrades

  • Troubleshoot and resolve HPC cluster issues working closely with on-site network administrators.

  • Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems

  • Monitor the health of the Linux servers through both automated and manual processes

  • Provide clear and detailed feedback to stakeholders on gaps and improvement areas, specifically in the areas of simplification, stability, and operational efficiency

  • Document system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks

  • Stay up-to-date on the latest HPC technologies and best practices and work with stakeholders

  • Provide reliable and efficient backups/restores for all managed systems

  • Provide 24-hour, 7-day on-call support and off-hours maintenance windows

  • Maintain documentation for procedures, configurations, and programs.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • Advanced degree in a related area preferred

  • 2+ years of experience working with Linux operating systems preferred.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems

  • Strong knowledge of HPC cluster

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve HPC cluster

  • Ability to work with both hardware and software

  • Knowledge of Linux scripting language

  • Strong leadership and organizational skill

  • Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.
