Staff Systems Engineer - Networking

Position Summary:

Design and implement computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and customer or cloud data communications networks. Perform network modeling, data analysis, and planning of the global data network. Incumbent will design networks and ensure a secure data networking environment. Incumbent will research and recommend network and data communications hardware, software and remediation tasks to Data Communications leaders, acts as a consultant to the business in regards to the overall performance, health and maintenance of the data network. The position requires deep technical knowledge, knowledge of emerging trends, and the ability to interface with teams to drive efforts to completion.

This position may involve 25-30% Travel

Major Responsibilities:

Technology

• Analyze business requirements to develop technical network solutions

• Understand emerging trends regarding data networks and deployments

• Perform network modeling, analysis, remediation and planning

• Analyze, engineer, and execute software functions as it relates to network equipment and data communications.

• Solve complex problems with many variables

• Upgrade network hardware and software components as required

Project Management

• Develop test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects.

• Identify and recommend solution to meet customer needs, and implement chosen solution.

• Manage projects from identification of need to implementation and ongoing monitoring of system/solution performance.

• Develop technology roadmaps

Analytics

• Involved in analyzing system/software performance and adjust network specifications based on any identified problems

• Analyze network connectivity to ensure that hardware is utilized at its highest capacity

• Perform network analysis and disaster recovery planning and testing for the Company’s WAN environment.

• Establish baselines for network and application performance.

Customer Experience

• Communicate with client and vendor’s groups on a regular basis to determine needs for short term and future growth.

• Work closely with customer’s leadership and project team during scope development and option analysis phase.

• Other projects as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications:

• At least 1 vendor accreditation at the highest level, typically Cisco (CCIE/CCNP/CCDA/CCDP) – preferred

• Associates degree required, advanced degrees preferred.

• 10+ years’ experience in network architecture

• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN support and engineering design for voice, data and video networks at Access, Aggregation, and Core network locations as well as Wi-Fi.

• Thorough understanding of modern service provider TCP/IP data networks using standards and technologies including but not limited to: MPLS, BGP4, EIGRP, QOS

• Specific MPLS knowledge across the Architecture/Design/Implementation roles including but not limited to VPN routing/forwarding, BGP integration, hub/spoke architectures on both LANs and WANs.

• Wireless Infrastructure knowledge is required including but not limited to Autonomous and Lightweight Architectures, 3G/4G/5G, 802.1x and other security conscious implementations including VPN solutions.

• Superior knowledge, skills and experience with Cisco & Aruba hardware, routing & security hardware, software, protocols etc.

• Understanding and familiarity with cloud solutions for enterprise networks

• Router, Switch and IP configuration experience is required both Architectural and hands-on.

• Strong working knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, electrical, UPS, etc.

• Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead and as a participant in a team environment.

• Experience and full fluency in the following hardware/software:

­ - Cisco tools (routers, switches, wireless access points, and WLSE)

­ - Cisco Nexus NXOS and/or Cisco ACI

­ - InfoBlox DNS/DHCP

­ - CA Spectrum, Cisco Prime, Solar Winds knowledge

­ - MPLS and Site-to-Site VPN implementations

­ - IP Addressing schemes.

­ - IP Multicast

­ - Bandwidth / Circuit monitoring tools.

­ - Microsoft office applications (including Visio)

• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
