The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) - Office of the Controller* is currently seeking an Accountant. Exempt regular staff receive a generous leave package that includes over 4 weeks of vacation accrued each year, paid holidays, unlimited accrual of sick time, and comprehensive health insurance; professional learning and development programs; tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland school; and flexible work schedules and teleworking options (if applicable per job). *Primary Duties * Administers and maintains student third party sponsor billing invoicing, overseeing a substantial volume exceeding $9.3 million annually and processing 1,100 invoices per academic year; this involves meticulous review and analysis of complex student accounts receivable transactions and third party sponsor purchase orders and billing authorizations, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing across various formats. * Prepare and generate third party tuition bills with precision and punctuality, utilizing Quantum Financials or the appropriate federal agency system. This includes meticulous documentation maintenance and verification of financial transactions, ensuring seamless integration with student accounts receivable for third party commitments and payments. * Conduct thorough monitoring and examination of state ACH payment reports and balance sheet accounts, facilitating the prompt posting of student sponsor invoice payments to student accounts receivable. * Perform detailed examination, analysis, and reconciliation of third-party accounting transactions, ensuring accurate accounting of student funds pending and received through effective integration of Quantum Financials, Banner, and billing systems. * Execute all necessary collection follow-up with student sponsors, taking proactive measures to secure prompt payment while maintaining professional relationships with government agencies. * Conduct comprehensive reviews and analysis of student accounts receivable transactions for completeness and accuracy, completing monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts to the general ledger. * Serve as a primary resource for UMB Student Financial Services Customer Service, delivering exceptional support to students and departmental customers. Address inquiries related to UMB’s intricate student accounts receivable and unique tuition and fee structures, assisting with a range of topics including tuition, fees, payment options, Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), USM tuition remission, UMB internal payments, third-party sponsor billing, and student refunds. * Administers and maintains VA certification workflow; Examines School Certifying Officials (SCO) submitted forms for accuracy of benefit amounts compared to assessed tuition and fees; identifies any discrepancies to ensure uniform application related to posting VA benefits to student accounts. * Fulfill any additional duties as assigned, contributing to the smooth operation of student financial services and supporting the overall goals of the institution. Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration Experience: Two (2) years of accounting related experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Preferred Experience:Experience in working with Banner or a similar ERP system and processing third party billing for sponsored student accounts. Experience working in a multi-campus educational setting. Other: Related experience may be substituted for education KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES Proven Customer Service Skills.Proficient in the use of software applications such as Word and Excel.General knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
