Job Summary

Assists in grant proposal development, including facilitating proposal planning, proposal writing and editing, complementing central pre-award support; develops workshops to educate faculty on funding opportunities and grant writing; monitors and submit reports through Mentis (UTA’s Grant Software System).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Grant proposal development: Interpret RFPs or sponsor guidelines, facilitate PI planning meetings, develop documents checklist, proofread, assist in writing and editing complex- technical proposals, including improving graphics, assist with budget preparation and budget justifications, facilitate institutional letters of commitment, review sub-award proposal documents for compliance and other post-award issues, and assign risk levels when needed.

  • Check the research award information systems and other data for accuracy and congruency with the proposal materials; work with central university research office to support successful submission of proposal.

  • Maintain funding opportunity information to identify and solicit grants from; inform faculty members of grant opportunities; Organize proposal development workshops / seminars for popular funding opportunities (e.g., NSFCAREER) for potential PIs; Maintain a comprehensive list of federal and private funding agencies. Keep informed of various sponsors grant requirements.

  • Maintain College research data, check status and updates of grant submission through UTA’s Mentis Grant Software System for data reporting, and assists in developing more efficient methods and procedures for grant management.

  • Coordinate with other University offices, other institutions of higher education, or funding agencies in connection with grants and research activities.

  • Perform other duties (including meeting coordination for Associate Dean of Research) as assigned.

  • Oversee and coordinates special projects for the college.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of related experience in grant writing/management, grant proposal development, or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education, experience in grant preparation and development, proposal editing and writing, and proficiency with PeopleSoft & Microsoft Office Suite products.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have sufficient knowledge to review proposal submissions and mitigate items (budget, conflict of interest, etc.) that might be problematic upon award.

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively interact faculty and staff members.

  • Solid organizational and document-handling skills.

  • Detail-oriented with accuracy in typing and spelling.

  • Proficiency in the evaluations, observations, analysis and reporting of financial data.
