University at Albany Assistant Athletic Trainer in Albany, New York

he Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Albany will provide the Department of Athletics with the administrative management necessary for the successful operation of a Division I athletics training and healthcare delivery system for over 450 student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room and will be assigned to provide athletic training services for one sport, or a Fall and a Spring sport, and will be responsible for daily practice and game athletic training coverage, team travel, coordinating all treatments, and physician referrals.

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintain National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) certification, NY State Licensure, and current CPR/AED certification. Maintain certifications by completing the required continuing education requirements as established by the NATA. Provide day-to-day athletic training services for all student-athletes in the area of injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries. Responsible for providing educational programs for student-athletes, coaches, and staff related to general health, current trends in sports medicine, nutrition, and sports supplements. Responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive medical records on each student-athlete, including all insurance correspondence.

Work with the Head Athletic Trainer and Student Health Services to provide day-to-day general medical coverage for student-athletes, including but not limited to organizing and administering pre-participation physical examinations, required laboratory and diagnostic tests, and physician referrals. Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in establishing appropriate student-athlete insurance and coordinate and administer the insurance program, including claims, tracking, monitoring, and correspondence. Responsible for complying with all NCAA and Conference applicable rules, the NATA Sports Medicine Handbook, and for implementing all required NCAA student-athlete safety and welfare policies and procedures related to concussion management, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, mental health, and other medical requirements.
Assist with organizing department-wide CPR/AED and medical emergency training. Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with budget preparation and management and consult with the Head Athletic Trainer as it relates to the purchase of equipment and supplies. Responsible for assisting with the drug testing program in conjunction with Drug Free Sport and work with the Head Athletic Trainer to schedule and facilitate all aspects of the drug program. Provide necessary drug education programs to student-athletes, coaches, and staff related to banned substances, ergogenic aids, and nutritional supplements. Coordinate all travel arrangements and requirements for medical staff for team travel, continuing education, and other professional development opportunities. Annually attend and ensure all of your reports attend the mandatory sexual violence prevention program as required by federal, state, SUNY, and University policies and procedures prior to or at the beginning of the academic year. Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certified by the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and eligible for licensure in the State of New York. Current certification in CPR/AED Training. A minimum of 1 year as a certified athletic trainer, Division I experience preferred.
